Brownie having a ball in Oz

-

Scotland netball captain and Airdrie local Claire Brownie hailed the team’s performance against England on the Gold Coast, despite falling to defeat against the old rivals.

The Scots slumped to a 7228 loss in their Pool B clash to the team ranked number three in the world.

Brownie then led her country to a 51-47 win over Wales on Saturday.

But the side lost 60- 29 against New Zealand during the early hours of Tuesday morning before pushing a highly-regarded Malawi team in a close-fought 51-50 defeat hours later.

Ahead of the Scots’ final game against Uganda later today, and despite her side’s setbacks, Monklands hopeful Brownie has taken encouragement from their displays – especially against England – and feels positive for the future.

“That was a brilliant experience for us,” she said following the opening clash.

“England are going for gold here and we are currently ninth in the world.

“It was fantastic to get all 12 players out to experience the Commonwealth Games in front of a massive crowd and we learned lots from it ahead of the rest of our games.”
