FLEET TOWN’S unbeaten pre-season record came to an end after they were humbled by a strong Basingstoke Town line-up on Tuesday night.

Former Hartley Wintney striker Sam Argent netted twice as the Dragons ensured that Craig Stanley’s late strike was mere consolation.

Tuesday’s defeat at Calthorpe Park came after Fleet registered their fifth straight draw of the pre-season campaign with an entertaining 3-3 stalemate against Southern League Central side Hanwell Town on Saturday.

Two goals just before halftime by Jack White put the Blues ahead, only for the visitors to turn the tables and take a 3-2 lead.

But once again Craig Davis’ men found a way back and equalised late on courtesy of a fine run into the box by skipper Ben White.

Fleet play their last friendly on Saturday when they entertain Ryman Premier Hampton & Richmond, (ko 3pm).
