5 NEWS & MAIL WEDNESDAY, JULY 8, 2020 News Aldershot Lido to stay shut for the summer Man, 20, charged after car collision COUNCIL MAKES ‘DIFFICULT’ DECISION WITH SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED A 20-YEAR-OLD man has been charged after an early morning crash in Yateley. Emergency services were sent to Dungells Lane, near Newlands Primary School, at just before 12.30am on Sunday morning to reports of a single vehicle collision. The driver of the car has been charged with driving the car while “alcohol level is above the limit”. The road was closed in both directions as police investigat­ed the incident. The road closure has since been lifted. Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service and South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) have been contacted for more informatio­n on the incident. Pramen Dhuga, 20, of Hangerfiel­d Close in Yateley, will appear before Basingstok­e Magistrate­s’ Court on August 4. By JAMIE PHILLIPS pool’s summer season usually runs from the end of May to the beginning of September and takes at least a month to get ready for opening. “But with the normal lido summer season now well under way, and concerns that on-going social distancing measures would drasticall­y limit the number of visitors allowed in the pool anyway, the council and Places Leisure, which manages the lido on its behalf, have reluctantl­y agreed that the lido will not open this summer.” The preparatio­n period for the lido normally includes servicing, cleaning and filling the 90-year-old pool and its tank and chlorinati­ng the water, as well as preparing the site and training the staff needed to cover the three-month period it is open. Councillor @JPhillips_SJ ALDERSHOT Lido has confirmed it will not open this summer. The lido, managed by Places Leisure, has “reluctantl­y agreed” with Rushmoor Borough Council (RBC) that it will remain closed through the summer months due to concerns it would not be able to guarantee the safety of visitors. The council confirmed the closure in a statement on Friday, citing that social distancing measure would “drasticall­y limit the number of visitors allowed in the pool anyway”. It added: “With continued uncertaint­y about the safe re-opening of swimming pools, Rushmoor Borough Council has taken the difficult decision to keep Aldershot Lido closed this summer.
