NEWS&MAIL Aldershot Town boss Danny Searle believes Kodi LyonsFoster has all the attributes to play in a defensive midfield position due to his experience as a centre-back IAN SCAMMELL Searle’s swap Shots learn to adapt BOSS WANTS PLAYERS WHO CAN PLAY IN MULTIPLE POSITIONS Meanwhile, Searle has confirmed the club are also close to signing Reece Miller. The Aldershot-born former Watford forward has been training with the Shots squad and Searle said they have even gone as far as to give him a squad number for the coming season. “Reece is a good prospect and we are confident of getting a deal done with him very soon,” Searle added. “He just wants to get his head down and play football. He’s in every day with us, part of the first team and has his squad number.” this is a great opportunity for him to do that. “Now we’ve steered Kodi into that four position as well. Kodi is technically very good and has a defensive mindset anyway because he is traditionally a centreback. I played Kodi in the number four position when I was at Braintree Town and we went on a run and he was a key part of that. “It’s definitely an area we are looking at and he can play centreback as well, and I think with the squad size we have this year then it’s important to have players who can play in more than one position.” 23-year-old Lyons-Foster, another who plays at centre-back, being tested in the number four role during pre-season. “When we sighed Jamie [SendlesWhite] and we retained [Alex] Finney and Kodi, everyone was saying we have four centre-backs,” Searle explained. “That’s with George Fowler, but George Fowler is not a centre-back, George Fowler is a right-back. “I’m surprised no one has really had a look at that before to be honest. He has every attribute not just to be a good right-back but a top right-back. “We sat down with George in the off-season and went through some stuff. We looked at him in that position last season several times and he wants to progress his career, he wants to move on and we feel DANNY Searle first persuaded George Fowler to become a rightback and now Kodi Lyons-Foster is trying his hand at playing in central midfield. And the Shots boss admitted that with a small squad it is important for players to be adaptable. Essex-born Fowler originally arrived at Aldershot on loan from Ipswich Town in the summer of 2017, before making the move permanent. While he used to play in central midfield in his youth, he was introduced to Shots supporters as a centre-back. But since Searle arrived at the EBB Stadium, he highlighted Fowler as a player who was suited to playing on the right side of defence – insisting he could be one of the best right-backs in non-league.
