All About History - - THROUGH HISTORY -

Although ‘Derringer’ is used as a term for any pocket pistol, it’s actually a misspelling. The inventor’s surname had just one ‘r’ and his first large-caliber, short-barrelled model was the singleshot, muzzle-loading, percussion cap Philadelphia Deringer in 1852. It was used by John Wilkes Booth to kill President Abraham

Lincoln in 1865.
