Left-handed operation

-

The operator would place his or her left hand on the handle of the carriage and move it close to the spindles.

With the roving drawn through the clasp bars and attached to the spindles, the carriage would be pulled back to draw a length of yarn. The operator would then press down on the handle, raising the lower rail of the carriage to trap the roving. He or she could then begin turning the wheel.
