It’s the last chance for sow­ing hardy an­nual seed for an early show next year – best in a warm corner, cold frame or cloche.


Sow hardy peas and broad beans for much ear­lier crops next year in the hope that a mild win­ter lets them come through.


It’s also the last chance to sow green ma­nure seeds on bare soil and empty beds un­der soft fruit, trees and roses.


Once price-re­duced by the gar­den cen­tres, buy ‘gone-over’ pot­ted chrysan­the­mums, cut back and keep in a cold green­house or frame for flow­er­ing next year.
