There’s a lot to learn about planting big trees

Amateur Gardening - - This Week In Gardening -

1 When transplanting bare root fagus (beech) trees and hedging, never let the roots get dry – if you do success will be compromised.

2 Don’t give up on crataegus (thorn) if it’s slow to break into growth after transplanting. It can happily remain dormant for 12 months before growing away.

3 You can check for life in trees and shrubs by scratching the bark, if it’s green below the surface woody plants are still alive.
