Tak­ing camel­lia cut­tings

Au­tumn is the ideal time to take hard­wood cut­tings from your ex­ist­ing camel­lia plants. Here’s how:

Cut stems from this year’s growth and trim to 4-6in/10-15cm, just be­low a leaf node. Re­move lower leaves, then dip base of cut­ting in hor­mone root­ing pow­der.


Insert cut­tings into pots filled with a 50/50 mix of er­i­ca­ceous com­post and sharp sand. Wa­ter well and place in a green­house, cold frame or prop­a­ga­tor un­til next au­tumn, when you are ready to plant out or pot on.
