If, like me, you gar­den on heavy, boggy soil, try to im­prove drainage be­fore win­ter sets in by fork­ing in the old com­post from your sum­mer con­tain­ers and grow­ing bags. Spread over the beds and fork in with sharp sand or grit. As you can see, my schizostylis bulbs thrive on it, and make a great show through­out au­tumn. Heather Eaton, Leomin­ster
