Dividing & planting aquatics
1 Using an old knife, cut healthy sections of plants (in this case an iris) to fit an aquatic basket.
2 Line the basket with hessian and pot the plants in aquatic plant compost or garden soil with no added organic matter or fertiliser.
3 Top the basket with shingle to keep the soil in and trim or tuck in the hessian.
4 Replace into the pond so the roots are under water and some of the leaves are above. Place on bricks if necessary. A miniature waterlily should be only 6-12in (15-30cm) deep.
