Di­vid­ing & plant­ing aquat­ics

1 Us­ing an old knife, cut healthy sec­tions of plants (in this case an iris) to fit an aquatic bas­ket.

2 Line the bas­ket with hes­sian and pot the plants in aquatic plant com­post or gar­den soil with no added or­ganic mat­ter or fer­tiliser.

3 Top the bas­ket with shin­gle to keep the soil in and trim or tuck in the hes­sian.

4 Re­place into the pond so the roots are un­der wa­ter and some of the leaves are above. Place on bricks if nec­es­sary. A minia­ture wa­terlily should be only 6-12in (15-30cm) deep.
