Late-bloom­ing peren­ni­als can still go in the ground in early sum­mer, but do all you can to help the un­estab­lished roots find wa­ter.

Loosen soil a good depth be­neath where the plant will go, and fork in plenty of or­ganic mat­ter as this will aid wa­ter re­ten­tion.

Dur­ing dry weather, fill the hole with wa­ter and al­low it to sink in be­fore plant­ing.
