A week in photography

Amateur Photographer - - 7days -

It’s shaping up to be a good summer, so now is the time to sharpen your outdoor portrait skills. Studio shoots are all very well, but there is nothing like skilfully directed and shaped natural light. See page 12 for expert tips on mastering the art of alfresco people shots, with inspiration and technical tips to get you creating your best-ever images. Our competition – APOY (Amateur Photographer of the Year) – is also looking for portrait entries, so this is a great way to kill two birds with one stone. Pentax fans, meanwhile, will want to turn to our field test of the rugged K1 (page 40), and there’s a great tutorial on combining the power of Lightroom and Photoshop (page 34). Add in some great features on documentary photography and you’ve got another engrossing issue this week. Nigel Atherton, Editor
