Dean wins his second Wychavon title
ENGLAND Feeder Team international Dean Barlow got his name on the Wychavon Championship trophy for the second time, after victory in a rock-hard, 72-entry showdown in Evesham Sunday event.
Dean (Drennan Oxford) – son of the late Angler’s Mail columnist Frank, who also won the title – drew peg 35 on the Isbourne Mouth, and tempted four chub and two chublets on waggler and maggots with a few perch on pole for 8 lb 4 oz.
“It’s an absolute dolly peg, but I had to fish very fine to catch those wary chub with a size 22 hook on 0.09 mm hook length. It’s great to get the Barlow name on the trophy three times,” said Dean, who finished fifth in the previous day’s Dynamite Individual Championship with 5 lb 4 oz… including a hemp-tempted
2 lb chub!
On a day which saw 21 anglers fail to trouble the scales, Dean’s closest rival with 7 lb 14 oz of roach to long pole and hemp from peg 16 was Lee Edwards (Daiwa Dorking). Rob Wootton (Dynamite Baits) was third with 6 lb 5 oz at peg 73.
