John’s POINT OF VIEW
What’s caught my attention this week! Waterside watch
IT’s about three years since I’ve seen a grass snake swim across a river, and the weekend just gone I saw two on two different beats of stream… a bit like buses.
Also, I managed to spot FIVE kingfishers on a single branch, all bobbing, weaving, scanning the gravels for minnows. Less thrillingly, though, I also spotted a large, adult polecat stalking some young partridges. There’s a big fear in East Anglia that a lot have escaped, and can be just as destructive as mink.
