CAC have a decent portfolio of stillwaters and superb river stretches, including some top beats of the Hampshire Avon and Dorset Stour. Big chub, barbel and roach are key species, together with carp, dace, pike and perch. The stillwaters offer some excellent pike, carp and tench action. What’s being caught? Carp are the main species, but also lots of action from silver fish and fantails. The roach fishing can be excellent.
Tactics? Maggots, corn and pellets under pole gear can tempt a lot of action. Waggler or feeder for the carp.
Hill View Lakes
Where? Cherry Orchard
Lane, Twyning, Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, GL20 6JH. Day tickets £8. Tel: 01684 296719. What’s being caught? Good for big hauls of F1s and carp, three figures achievable from Heron, Moorhen and the Canals. Tactics? Shallow tactics still worth trying, with pellets or casters good.

On Match Lake, several pegs good for 50 lb-plus of small carp, crucians, barbel, tench, roach and rudd. On its day, 100 lb-plus is possible. Tactics? Try short and longer pole with meat, corn, pellets, worms, maggots and casters. Running line float or leger for the carp on Main Lake, with pellets working well.
