Match News IN BRIEF
Wirral charity cheer Great Shakes for Jason
SHAKESPEARE Superteam canal lynchpin Jason Cunningham helped his side establish a commanding mid-series lead in the Angling Trust Warwickshire Winter League with a superb haul on the Birmingham-Fazeley Canal at Erdington.
Drawn at peg 148 on the Brambles, Hednesford-based Jason tempted 20 skimmers for 21 lb 15 oz 4 dr on long pole with bloodworm and caster.
The Shakie crew’s 20-point win on the day gives them 4 points overall, with closest rivals Matrix Dynamite Trentmen on 7 and Drennan Leicester third with 11. ■ Jason Cunningham’s 20 skimmers on the Brambles stretch.
Ready to Rumble!
AFTER winning the two previous Opens, Adam Rumble (Dynamite Maver Midlands) clocked up a superb hat-trick with victory in Round Three of the Angling Trust Heronbrook Fishery teams-of-eight winter league.
Wolves-based Adam drew end peg 2 on Canal Pool and shipped in 102 F1s for 184 lb on pole and maggots, helping his team strengthen their overall leadership, despite playing second fiddle on the day to Browning Lifestyle by 21 points to 24, with Drennan NW third on 26.
Plain sailing for Jane
SENSAS Lobby’s skipper Andy Jane had his third win in four rounds of the Upper Thames Winter League, with 12 lb of skimmers and big roach on the Kennet and Avon Canal, contested from Seend to Devizes, Wiltshire.
Andy presented worms over fishmeal groundbait on far bank pole tactics at a peg beside the Wires, but despite his continued heroics, his team failed to trouble Daiwa Gordon League, who won the day with a record 40 points from Garbolino BVMG on 36, to gain overall lead by 6 points to 7.
THE Claire House Children’s Hospice fundraiser has rapidly grown from a modest 30-peg event into a multi-venue extravaganza over its five-year history, raising a mighty £45,000 along the way.
This year’s match attracted 96 entrants, spread across Lingmere, Yewtree, Moreton Brickworks and Ellesmere Port, which supplied all the top weights, led by Alan Dewhurst with 108 lb 10 oz of carp to 3 lb, F1s and ide.
More funds will be raised at the presentation night, when the team result will also be revealed. Full info for anyone wishing to support and participate in the next event from Colin Cook on 07547 705858.
