Modern methods

Anglers Mail - - Front Page -

The biggest changes in barbel fishing over the years have been the tremendous advances in terms of tackle and bait, and yet the tried and tested methods of the past still have their place.

There are now wonderfully strong, incredibly sharp, little hooks available, turning little knocks and pulls into full-blooded bites, with barbel hooking themselves as never before.

Hook link materials have progressed remarkably, and the crossover of rigs from carp fishing must now put many more fish on the bank. The current range and quality of barbel baits means that you can stay ahead of both the barbel and other anglers, as fish become suspicious of standard fare. Experimenting with baits also adds another dimension of interest to your fishing, be it with a secret, new recipe, or trying standard baits such as corn that have fallen out of fashion!
