THERE’S no room for fine lines and hook­links with Clive’s ap­proach - he uses 0.17mm Pre­ston Pow­er­line straight through for a su­per-strong set-up.

He also prefers an eyed hook – a size 14 Ka­masan B911 – for ex­tra se­cu­rity with thick lines. It’s tied like a spade-end and houses five or six dead red mag­gots.

His float is a hand­made mar­gin pat­tern from Com­mer­cial In­di­ca­tors, and his elas­tic is a No12 solid la­tex. It’s very soft ini­tially, which al­lows him to guide the fish out of the peg with­out caus­ing it to bolt and splash, scar­ing other carp.
