Su­perb sport on the Stour Throop is a truly epic river fish­ery

Throop is made up of three pic­turesque beats...

Beat 1: . This stretch is very lightly fished. It runs from the golf course at Par­ley to the New Weir at Throop. For just £5 a day an­glers can tar­get big bar­bel, chub, perch, tench and roach on this deep stretch.

Beat 2: Be­gin­ning at the New Weir and run­ning all the way down to the road bridge on the A338 at Black­wa­ter, it passes through a lovely gravel bot­tom with lots of shal­lows and deep pools. It holds the Throop record bar­bel of 16lb 2oz along with chub to 8lb 3oz, spec­i­men roach, perch and some huge pike to over 30lb.

Beat 3: This runs from the A338 at Black­wa­ter down to Iford Bridge, which is part of the tidal stretch. Many large bar­bel have been taken from this stretch to over 15lb and all meth­ods and baits can be used, even the float when con­di­tions are right.
