14-year wait ends with 7lb 2oz eel
A 14-YEAR wait to break his eel personal best finally came to end for Lee Andrews when he slipped the net under this whopping 7lb 2oz specimen from an unpromising venue.
Having landed a 6lb 2oz fish back in 2002, the 35-year-old from the West Midlands spent hours on the bank in search of a bigger fish, visiting numerous venues across the country.
His latest exploits saw the National Anguilla Club member fishing multiple sessions on a stillwater in the Midlands, despite not knowing if it even held the species. After feeding no fewer than 10 pints of maggots his patience was finally rewarded when the fish took hold of his hookbait of five lobworms fished 1ft 6ins off the deck.
A relieved Lee told Angling Times: “I had fished this water for five weekends without a single run, but I kept at it as I had a feeling there would be eels in there.
“I hope this gives everyone the motivation to carry on fishing for this wonderful species.
