Cased trout goes for £1,300

Angling Times (UK) - - THIS WEEK -

A CASED trout more than 100 years old shocked experts by fetching £1,300 at auction.

Staff at Thomas Watson’s in Darlington had estimated the fish – caught from Lough Mask in Co Mayo, Ireland, in 1914 and shown below – could make as little as £300.

David Elstob, valuer for the company, said: “The great appeal of this particular piece was that the taxidermists were J Cooper & Sons, much admired by collectors.”
