SOAR IS FULL OF SURPRISES

Angling Times (UK) - - MIDLANDS -

THE upstream stretch of the Soar above Station Road Bridge holds lots of specimen fish.

Run by Long Eaton Victoria Angling Society, the river here has deep holes, slow bends, fast runs and even a weir pool occupied by chub, barbel, dace, perch, carp and pike.

On the slower-moving meadow pegs at the start of the stretch good catches of chub and silvers can be made on feeder or the pole. At the top end you can cross over the lock and fish the weir pool for chub.

The water is fairly shallow and pacy here but you can enjoy a great session with fish to over 5lb, fishing a small stick float with pellets or a bomb with bread. You’ll have to travel light or take a barrow as it’s a good walk to these swims.
