ARTIN Paget needed just a few slices of bread and nerves of steel to tempt this 49-pounder with the sim­plest of tac­tics. Berk­shire syndicate venue dur­ing an af­ter­noon ses­sion.

He added: “I watched her suck in the hook­bait and struck. I was wor­ried about the over­hang­ing trees and snags close to my right, but man­aged to keep her away from them.

“I thought I had hooked a thirty, but then she took line against a very tight clutch and I re­alised this fish was much big­ger.

“My 3lb test curve rod was hooped over dou­ble as most of the fight was un­der the rod-tip. I was telling my­self to stay calm and keep steady pres­sure on, know­ing that if I kept on play­ing her she would tire even­tu­ally!”
