It’s the lack of respect that some walkers and bikers have for anglers sharing the banks with them. Don’t get me wrong, the vast majority are respectful, but some have no concept about the value of fishing tackle.

Anglers invest thousands of pounds into their hobby, and a rogue passer-by can easily cause an awful lot of damage as they don’t appreciate the true value of fishing tackle.

Canals are fantastic fisheries, but groups such as the Canal & River Trust need to do more to educate the general public about the price of fishing tackle if the popularity of these waters is going to rise. Paul Talbot, email
