FIVE-YEAR-OLD LAD SEES FATHER CLEAN UP ON MONKS PIT

Two twenties and a thirty banked

-

NOT much in fishing can beat a productive father-and-son trip, as Paul Heseltine proved with a trio of fish in the company of young Rylen.

The pair fished a weekend session on Monks Pit at Godmanchester in Cambs, where dad landed a 20lb 1oz common as well as mirrors of 26lb 7oz and 35lb 5oz.

“I really enjoyed some fatherand-son time this weekend over on Monks Pit with my five-yearold boy Rylen,” said Paul. “The carp gods always seem to smile on me when he comes along.”

In a scene that is sure to be repeated across the country in the coming weeks now the school summer holidays are here, Rylen watched on as dad baited heavily and stepped up to a size 4 hook at the popular syndicate venue.

Said Paul: “I must say that since swapping to a slightly bigger hook I’ve landed every bite, which is a real bonus considering the number of fish you normally lose in the kelp weed on Monks.

“I baited quite heavily with hemp, maize and around 6kg of boilies. Little 18mm PVA mesh sticks went out on every cast for that bit of added attraction around the hookbait, though this was mostly to ensure I was not pulling the hook into weed on the cast.”

Paul presented Mad Baits Addiction and Wicked White boilies on a snowman rig using a size 4 Ashima Heavy Carp hook.

He added: “I think I need to take Rylen with me more often!”
