Crack­down re­veals 677 li­cence-dodgers

HUN­DREDS of an­glers have been found fish­ing il­le­gally fol­low­ing a na­tion­wide crack­down.

In a three-week early sum­mer en­force­ment cam­paign car­ried out by En­vi­ron­ment Agency bailiffs, no fewer than 677 an­glers were caught fish­ing with­out an EA rod li­cence.

A to­tal of 9,555 an­glers were checked on a num­ber of fish­eries across Eng­land dur­ing the blitz.

Of these, 237 were caught fish­ing il­le­gally on the first May bank hol­i­day, 277 on the sec­ond, and 163 at the start of the river sea­son be­tween June 16 and 19.
