Fish­ing a Berkley Rocket Craw at Dobbs Weir on the Lea. EW things are more en­joy­able than spend­ing a sum­mer’s day lure fish­ing on a river.

I of­ten try to cover as much wa­ter as I can in a sin­gle ses­sion, but one area of a river I’ll pay par­tic­u­lar at­ten­tion to at this time of year is a weir pool – the roar and fresh weedy smell of the foam­ing white wa­ter found here al­ways re­minds me of sum­mer, and it’s a mag­net for fish.

Full of oxy­genated wa­ter, weir pools are ex­cit­ing places to fish as bites can be very ag­gres­sive, and play­ing the fish in a strong cur­rent A box­ful of my favourite soft plas­tics.
