How many droppers?

Angling Times (UK) - - TIPS & TACTICS -

HOW many dropper shot should I place between my olivette and hooklength when fishing for roach and skimmers on a slow-flowing river?

Matt Hanton, Horncastle

FOR roach and small skimmers, having three or four droppers in between will give the hookbait a natural fall in the final third of the swim, useful in this instance as roach and skimmers often feed off bottom, even on rivers. For bigger bream, cut the droppers back to one as the fall of the bait isn’t so important.

If you’re loosefeeding, a slower fall of the bait will catch, but if you throw in several balls of groundbait at the start and then feed nothing, you want the bait to go straight to the bottom.

In this instance, dropper shots will not matter as much.
