Hooklength or not?

Angling Times (UK) - - TIPS & TACTICS -

WHEN would you not use a hooklength and instead fish straight through?

Andrew Wilkinson, Bridlington

USING a hooklink of a finer diameter line will always get you more bites but creates a weak link, which is hazardous when fishing for big carp, tench and chub. Fishing one strength of line all the way through will give you the maximum chance of landing these specimens.

Match anglers fishing margins on commercials often fish what’s called ‘straight through’ to eliminate this weak link.
