Which groundbait for deep rivers?

Angling Times (UK) - - TIPS & TACTICS -

I’M fishing the River Trent soon and I am told it’s deep. Do I need to use a different groundbait to combat the deep water or is there an additive I can put in my favourite roach mix to get the balls to hold together?

YOU could do both and, if you have a successful groundbait mix, it’s hard to change things completely.

Should you wish to try something new, though, look at a dedicated river roach mix such as Sensas Gros Gardons or Bait-Tech Pro-Natural. Both these are sticky mixes that can be made into a ball with ease, and won’t break up until they hit bottom in up to 12ft of running water.

On the flipside, your original mix will be fine if you simply add a bag or two of the above mixes to increase the stickiness and binding power of the groundbait. Be sure to overwet your mix slightly, as this will retain the sticky nature of the feed throughout the day.
