THE SECRET IS OUT…
NE of the most fantastic aspects of fishing is that it puts you in touch with what’s beneath the surface of our waterways.
I’m fascinated by the extra glimpses you can get into the secret underwater world and I found the recent series of films of chub, tench, carp, and barbel on the Thames (news pages 8&9) very interesting.
Even with these films, and after all these years of investigations, we still really don’t understand fully how fish behave, move, and feed. Why are they in one spot one day and not the next? Why do they eat casters shallow one day and then only want pellets on the bottom the next time you fish?
If we could predict how the fish were going to behave each time we fished it would make our sport a little dull. Long live the mystery of not knowing what’s going to happen next!
