Angling helps to keep me slim and healthy

MY NON-ANGLING friends al­ways tell me that fish­ing is a sport for the lazy and idle within so­ci­ety, but I al­ways snig­ger and fight the urge to ar­gue back.

The re­al­ity is that fish­ing re­ally can be ar­du­ous, es­pe­cially if you en­joy rov­ing like I do.

I can eas­ily cover three or four miles of river in a few hours, and when you in­clude bat­tling through net­tle beds, climb­ing over stiles and bat­tling with big bar­bel (hope­fully!) you have an ac­tiv­ity that can ac­tu­ally keep you fit.

I sit be­hind a desk all week for work, and as I have a taste for a few pints at the week­end I need some­thing to help keep the pounds off. Angling def­i­nitely does that for me. Brian Hol­lidge, email
