THIS first event proved to be a big hit with a good attendance. And sponsor Norfolk company R&J Pipework will be backing next year’s event with plans to offer even more prize money.
The match attracted some big names along with a good helping of locals. In soaring temperatures, Maver/SSP Baits old hand Graham Dack strolled to victory to take the £5,000 first prize with a mammoth 267-0-0 of big carp from end peg 24 on the Elm Lake.
Graham endured a slow start, fishing worm long into the corner and on a small feeder. After an hour, however, he saw signs of fish in his other margin.
“The wind changed direction and blew into the bank. In the next 90 minutes I must have had 100lb feeding caster heavily and fishing four dead red maggots on the hook in about 2ft of water,” Graham said.
