Spon­sor pledges to boost cash that’s up for grabs

THIS first event proved to be a big hit with a good at­ten­dance. And spon­sor Nor­folk com­pany R&J Pipework will be back­ing next year’s event with plans to of­fer even more prize money.

The match at­tracted some big names along with a good help­ing of lo­cals. In soar­ing tem­per­a­tures, Maver/SSP Baits old hand Gra­ham Dack strolled to vic­tory to take the £5,000 first prize with a mam­moth 267-0-0 of big carp from end peg 24 on the Elm Lake.

Gra­ham en­dured a slow start, fish­ing worm long into the cor­ner and on a small feeder. Af­ter an hour, how­ever, he saw signs of fish in his other mar­gin.

“The wind changed di­rec­tion and blew into the bank. In the next 90 min­utes I must have had 100lb feed­ing caster heav­ily and fish­ing four dead red mag­gots on the hook in about 2ft of wa­ter,” Gra­ham said.
