A fish (more like 100 fish) too far at Arran’s
I LOVE catching fish as much as the next man, but reading about the weights at Arran’s Lake last week almost made me weep!
When I first took up angling about 10 years ago a 100lb catch made big headlines – nowadays it seems that every fishery is capable of attaining such dizzy heights.
But the 1,514lb match record that was set at Arran’s Lake is absolutely ridiculous. It gets to a point where it becomes catching and not fishing, and this was a classic example.
The only skill must be dragging them in quickly, and it sounds as though even the most amateurish angler could land 100lb-plus from this venue with no trouble at all.
Fishing is all about coming up with a plan that eventually tricks a few fish into feeding, but some waters are set up to provide action that is literally guaranteed, with little or no skill required to get bites.
I’m always open to trying different types of fishing but I can categorically state I will never set foot on Arran’s banks!
