LOW wa­ter lev­els and bright, hot weather are far from ideal con­di­tions for river fish­ing.

But there’s usu­ally one fish you can guar­an­tee a bite or two from un­der all con­di­tions – the chub!

You can catch old rub­ber lips in all sorts of places – next to weed rafts, streamer weed, over­hang­ing trees, un­der­cut banks and in wa­ter barely inches deep. They’ll take just about any bait go­ing, from the stan­dard fare of mag­gots, cast­ers, worms, bread, pel­lets, boilies and lun­cheon meat to slugs, snails, cheese, sea baits, lo­custs, lures and steak.
