Angling Times (UK) - - 50 GREATEST CATCHES -

38

IN July 2004 underdog Steve Clark smashed the First Division National Angling Championships record weight.

Fishing for team A4 Oxford MG on the famous peg 1A on the River Trent at Collingham, the Essex rod hauled out 28 bream and eight barbel for an astonishing 160lb 8oz.

Unbelievably, Clark had never fished the tidal Trent before and failed to register a bite for the first hour, before the fish moved over his bed of halibut pellets and casters. He then spent the next four hours netting fish after fish on a maggot hookbait to win by more than 100lb.
