NEVILLE FICKLING: British Record Pike
TROUT reservoirs have come to dominate catches of monster pike in recent years
But just over 30 years ago the rivers were still the place to go in search of a record, as Neville Fickling proved in February 1985 by catching a 41lb 6oz British best from the River Thurne in Norfolk.
The catch was taken on a legered frozen smelt, and beat the old record of just over 40lb which had stood for 18 years. It marked the end of a long campaign on the famous waterway for Neville.
