Angling Times (UK) - - 50 GREATEST CATCHES -

For all of his huge carp captures, including his seven 50lb-plus giants, Terry has used one of the three rigs detailed below. The trio of set-ups feature strong components and sharp hooks - the perfect combination!

STIFF -HINGE RIG For presenting pop-ups over clean lakebeds or those with just a small covering of weed, Terry will reach for his favourite stiff hinge rig. Once the bait is taken, it is very hard for the carp to eject. For presenting baits hard on the deck, Terry opts for a coated braid rig. He uses two small pieces of shrink tube - one over the eye and one on the bend of the shank - to help flip the hook over on the take. BOTTOM BAIT RIG CHOD RIG For fishing pop-up boilies over weedy or uneven lakebeds, Terry will use a chod rig. The slightly curved and stiff hooklink is free to ride up the leadcore leader and sit well clear of any detritus or weed.
