How do I catch over the ‘fizz’?

Angling Times (UK) - - TIPS & TACTICS -

WHY is it I can never get a bite directly over the top of bubbling and fizzing fish?

David Parker, Stockport

DESPITE all the activity, the float may refuse to budge. This almost always happens because the lakebed is packed with silt.

The fish tear up the bottom and become preoccupied with natural food that starts to appear. The water will also colour up significantly close to the deck, making it hard for the fish to even locate your hookbait.

To help alleviate this problem, fish a metre to the left or right of where you have fed. This will help you catch bigger fish as well, as the lumps in the shoal often sit off the epicentre to avoid the commotion.
