My first-ever barbel was a baptism of fire

Angling Times (UK) - - YOUR FISHING WEEK -

I WAS always under the impression that carp were the hardest-fighting species you could encounter in this country. But then I hooked my first barbel, and couldn’t believe the power of the beast!

I caught it during a session at Decoy Lakes, and although it only weighed around the 3lb mark, it fought like a 10lb carp.

It’s definitely given me a taste to catch more barbel, and if they fight like this in stillwater, I can only imagine how tough it is to a win a battle with a much bigger fish in running water. Sam Hinds, Oundle
