Not all about pellets
I FIND it encouraging that anglers have started returning to the rivers but I’d like to suggest that some of these people change their tactics if they wish to enjoy a bit more success.
A whole generation seems to have been brainwashed on commercial fisheries, and they seem to think that the only bait in existence is pellets.
They lash in pint after pint, but while pellets work well in some scenarios, they certainly aren’t the only bait worth considering.
In my experience you can’t beat a few slices of bread for big chub, while I have taken my biggest bags of bream using several tins of corn alongside a bed of fishmeal groundbait.
Pellets are well worth having in your bag when fishing rivers, but don’t neglect a few alternatives if you want to keep those bites coming. Tim Fulton, email
