Angling Times (UK) - - 50 GREATEST CATCHES -

CATCHES that come out of the blue and are made by previously ‘unknown’ anglers always seem to hold a little more romance, and Roddy Porter’s capture of a new British record carp in 1995 certainly ticked the right boxes on that score.

The 25-year-old had never caught a carp over 20lb before, and when his bite alarm sounded one evening in June, little did he know that he was about to rewrite the history books.

The enormous 54lb fish was taken from a relatively unheard of venue in Northants, and the catch showed just how easily big carp can easily slip under the radar of the angling world.
