Angling Times (UK) - - 50 GREATEST CATCHES -

IN October 1922 young Miss Georgina Ballantine made headlines across the nation when she landed the biggest rod-caught salmon ever.

It weighed 64lb, and Georgina hooked it on a lure while boat fishing with her father on the Glendelvine beat of the River Tay in Scotland. Amazingly, Georgina only became aware of her tremendous feat when, on visiting the city of Perth the next Monday, a huge crowd gathered in front of a fishing tackle shop.

She thought someone had had an accident but was surprised to learn that the large crowd was jostling for position to see her monster fish being displayed in the shop window.

Little did she know it at the time, but her 64lb record would still be standing some 94 years later. Even to this day the story is still spoken of among the angling fraternity.
