ALAN WILSON: Record Tench 1985

Angling Times (UK) - - 50 GREATEST CATCHES -

ALAN Wilson’s capture of a 12lb 8oz 11dr tench from Hertfordshire’s Wilstone Reservoir in June 1985 smashed the record out of sight by 2lb 8oz.

As well as capturing the attention of the entire coarse fishing world, it also showed just what was possible by adopting a full-on, highly-dedicated specimen angling approach.

After catching the fish on feeder fished sweetcorn shortly after sunrise, the captor retained the fish in a submerged keep-sack before driving to the nearest phone box and arranging for Angling Times and the British Record Fish Committee to come down to weigh and photograph the new record fish.

Alan, who is no longer with us, also won the prestigious Drennan Cup three times.

Alan Wilson’s 12lb 8oz 11dr tench was an easy record.
