Ribble shows its roach form
FURTHER proof that the nation’s rivers are packed with silverfish was provided when Alan Barnes took this 30lb net of roach, dace and chublets from the River Ribble.
Using stick float and maggot on the Lancashire waterway, the former Angling Times writer managed to put a fish in the net almost every trot through the swim.
Alan’s catch was by no means a fluke, and he said: “This summer I have had roach of 2lb 1oz and 1lb 12oz from the river, and I’ve heard of numerous others over the 2lb mark being caught.
“This is a golden period in the Ribble’s history. It is heaving with crumpers like this, yet amazingly you see very few float anglers on its banks.”
