CENTRAL TRACK

Angling Times (UK) - - TIPS & TACTICS -

THE deepest water in the lake is bang down the middle, 4ft-7ft on average. Unfortunately, the flat bottom here is often soft and silty.

You can catch here using a few sections of pole with meat and paste, but the central track is generally best left for winter if you intend fishing a full depth rig.

In warm weather, you can tempt fish to feed shallow, usually between halfway and two-thirds across. This line works well with big heads of fish such as F1s and ide, and one of the finest baits is loosefed casters. It’s worth setting up rigs at several depths from 6ins to 3ft to find where the fish feed best – this often changes throughout the day.
