No fun to fish against those venue experts
I HAVE been a match angler for over a decade and the decline in attendances on the commercial scene is really worrying.
When I first started out you would get 50 or more competing at the top fisheries each weekend but these days you are lucky to get 20 on what were traditionally the busiest days.
I think there are a number of reasons why this has happened. The first is the sheer number of commercials.
Each runs an event at the weekend and that spreads the anglers around, cutting attendances.
The appearance of ‘venue experts’ has also put some people off match angling altogether. When you can only fish once a week, what possible chance do you have of winning against the angler that has the luxury of fishing the same venue four or five times to your one? Nick Smith, Hull
