Big fish on a budget on the River Ure

Angling Times (UK) - - WHERE TO FISH -

THE Ure at Ripon is a big-fish river at a budget price.

Chub to over 6lb, barbel to double figures and quality grayling, perch and pike can be sought on a £6 day ticket from Ripon Piscatorial Association.

Here the Ure has plenty of overhanging trees, shallow runs and deep bends. A roving approach will pay dividends but the static angler will not fail, as 70lb bags of chub averaging 4lb in the matches regularly held here will testify.

With the water being fairly shallow, use of a float may well be a little difficult so feeders and legers are therefore the best option. Casters, worms and bread should all get results here, especially when the weather turns colder. Trotted maggot can work too, especially for the grayling, while the bigger barbel will take worms, luncheon meat and corn fished on a lead or pellet feeder.
