Don’t be tempted to cast two or more lines into the same marginal spot. The chances of a carp knowing something is wrong will increase dramatically.
Fishing the margin allows you to bait on a little and often basis, so harvest the swim. Put enough in each time to win a bite, and do it every time you catch a fish.
Think about line management and do everything you can to stop the carp touching mono. This might mean keeping it slack or the angle it enters the swim.
On a clean hard substrate I prefer to fish a bottom bait – use pop-ups for weed and silt.
When fishing a single rod make sure it’s tangle-free. Tubing or leadcore, a semi stiff hook-length material and dissolvable foam all help.
